The 2026 Gauteng Investment Conference (GIC) reinforced Gauteng’s position as South Africa’s economic engine and one of Africa’s leading investment destinations. Bringing together government leaders, investors, business executives and development partners, the conference served as a platform to showcase investment opportunities, strengthen partnerships and advance economic growth across the Gauteng City Region.
The conference demonstrated confidence in Gauteng’s economy and its long-term growth potential. This confidence was reflected in investment commitments valued at R312 billion across 60 projects, signalling strong investor interest in the province’s strategic advantages, including its diversified economy, extensive infrastructure network, skilled workforce and role as a gateway to African and global markets.
Building Investor Confidence
A central theme of the conference was the importance of creating an environment that supports investment and business growth. Investment remains a critical driver of economic development, job creation and industrial expansion, making investor confidence essential to Gauteng’s long-term development objectives.
The conference highlighted opportunities across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, logistics, property development, ICT, mining, automotive production and agro-processing. It also reinforced the value of collaboration between government and the private sector in unlocking opportunities and supporting sustainable economic growth.
From Commitments to Results
The true measure of an investment conference lies in the successful implementation of projects. Since the conference, significant progress has been made in converting pledges into tangible economic activity.
According to the latest investment rollout status, 14 projects have already been unlocked, representing approximately R61 billion in investment value. These projects are projected to contribute around 160 000 jobs, highlighting the direct impact of investment on economic growth and employment creation.
The progress achieved to date demonstrates Gauteng’s commitment to supporting investors throughout the investment lifecycle. Through continued collaboration between government, investors and development partners, the province is working to ensure that investment commitments translate into real projects, real opportunities and lasting economic impact for the people of Gauteng.
